- Plan B $450 per semester/ $900 annually (allied health program students only)
**This fee can be waived with proof of your own insurance.
Financial Aid
Financial Aid
Cost should never be a barrier to higher education. Don’t let a lack of funds prevent you from achieving your goals. You may be eligible for a variety of financial aid programs, including Pell Grants, Federal Stafford Loans, and VSAC (Vermont Student Assistance Corporation) State Grants.
Conditions for financial aid assistance:
- Must be either a citizen or eligible non-citizen of the United States
- Must have a valid Social Security number
- For federal and institutional aid must be enrolled in a degree program
- For student loans, must be enrolled at least half-time (6 credits)
- Cannot owe a refund on a federal student grant nor be in default on a federal student loan
- Must meet minimum standards of academic progress as outlined in the The Champlain College Student Handbook
Note to Part-Time Students
Financial aid awards are made upon registration. If you receive aid, you must meet certain enrollment requirements, such as attending each class for which you are registered. In addition, the Federal Stafford Loan Program requires you to be enrolled at least half-time (six credits per semester). Failure to comply with requirements can result in the reduction or cancellation of your financial aid award, leaving you personally liable for payment.
To be eligible for most student loans, you must be enrolled at least half-time in a certificate or degree program. But search all options. Even if you’re enrolled less than half-time, financial aid may be available.
For example, if you’re not in a certificate or degree program and you are a Vermont resident, you may be eligible for a non-degree grant from Vermont Student Assistance Corporation.
And remember to keep copies of your financial aid information for your files. The Financial Aid Office may request financial aid applications for each new academic year.
How to Apply For Financial Aid
-
Complete and submit the FAFSA (www.fafsa.ed.gov)
The FAFSA is our official application for federal aid and is also required by most states in their grant application process. Our Title IV School Code is 003684. Do not submit your FAFSA prior to January 1, 2011, as the federal processor will not accept it.
We encourage you to use completed tax information when completing the FAFSA, but when necessary estimated figures may be used. Financial aid awards based on estimated financial information will be subject to review and revision once taxes are finalized.
Please submit your FAFSA information as soon as possible, even if you have not completed the application process. That way, when you are accepted and ready to register, your financial aid paperwork will already be underway and you won’t be stuck waiting for word of your financial aid status!
-
Complete and submit a state grant application
Vermont residents may apply for a VSAC grant after January 1st. [VSAC grant application] Students from other states should contact their state grant agency for further information and application procedures.
Refund Policy
Refund Policy
Tuition
In case of voluntary withdrawal or dismissal from the College, a portion of your tuition may be refunded. Students must notify the registrar in writing of their intent to withdraw from the College. The date this written withdrawal notification is received by the registrar, or the effective date, whichever is later, becomes the official withdrawal date and the basis for refund calculation. Such refunds, assuming that all financial obligations for the semester have been met, will be computed on the following basis (see tables below):
Federal Financial Aid
The responsibility for returning unearned Title IV aid is shared between Champlain College and you. It is allocated according to the portion of disbursed aid that could have been used to cover College charges and the portion that could have been disbursed directly to you once those charges are covered.
Champlain College will distribute unearned aid back to the Title IV programs, as specified by law. You will be billed for the amount that you owe to the Title IV programs, as well as for any amount due to the College as a result of Title IV aid that was returned that would have been used to cover College charges.
Students should also be aware that under federal regulations, any refund due as a result of withdrawal from the College must first be applied to repayment of ineligible federal loans and grants. Any remaining credit is then refundable to the student. In compliance with these regulations, refunds would be applied in the following order:
- William D. Ford Direct Unsubsidized Loans
- Direct Subsidized Loans
- Direct Parent PLUS Loans
- Federal Perkins Loan
- Federal Pell Grant
- Federal SEOG Grant
- State Grant
- The student
Course Audits
A student may change a course from credit to audit only during the first 10 days of a semester. Students should be aware that such change will not result in an adjustment in tuition or fees. However, students changing from audit to credit during the 10-day change period will be billed at the full tuition rate.\

Employer Reimbursement
You may take advantage of this option if you have a pre-approved employer tuition reimbursement plan with Champlain College, in which your employer reimburses you upon successful course completion. If, for example, an employer offers a 50 percent reimbursement, the student will be required to put 50 percent down upfront. The remaining balance (80% or 50%) will be processed approximately 30 days from the end of the course(s).
