International Admissions

Multicultural Classrooms Accessible From Around the World

Champlain College Online offers accessible and virtual learning environments that meet the needs of online students around the world. Our student support team stays in touch, develops relationships, and keeps students on track, no matter where they are located.

Before you get started in our degree and certificate programs, we want to make sure you are well-positioned for success in our online programs, which is why it's essential that we review your international transcripts and ensure you are proficient in the English language. Therefore, in addition to the admission requirements for the program you are interested in, international students must submit the items listed below. Applicants not meeting these requirements may be assessed on a case-by-case basis.

If you reside in the United States, please be aware that not all categories of Visas allow you or your children to take college courses, including online. Please confirm with the U.S. Department of State whether your Visa allows you to take online courses while you are living in the United States. If you are living outside of the United States you do not need a Visa to enroll in our online programs.

If you are an international student who has completed college-level coursework outside the U.S., we are happy to accept your international transcripts to demonstrate your credentials and coursework completed. However, they must go through a third-party credential evaluation process* to be translated and assessed. Champlain College Online accepts evaluations from any of the providers listed on the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES) website: http://www.naces.org/members.html.

*Please note: If you are applying for an undergraduate program, you must request a course-by-course evaluation from the evaluation service in order for Champlain to review and award transfer credit.

If you have not completed a minimum of an associate degree, we will also require copies of your official high school transcripts or GED scores. Again, these must go through a third-party credential evaluation process if completed outside the U.S. Champlain College Online accepts AACRAO's IES evaluations or any of the providers listed on the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES) website: http://www.naces.org/members.htmlIf you are unable to obtain your high school records and undergo the evaluation process, Champlain requires applicants to complete the General Educational Development (GED) Exam to satisfy proof of a high school education. Visit https://ged.com for more information.

Proficiency in the English language is both required and necessary for academic success at Champlain College Online. If English is not your native language, you will be required to demonstrate proficiency through one of two standardized examinations.*

  • TOEFL ( paper based):550 (no sub score lower than 50)
  • TOEFL (internet- based- IBT) 79 + (no sub score lower than 14)
  • British ‘O’ Level English Pass: A1-C6
  • Cambridge Assessment English: C1 Advanced or C2 Proficiency
  • PTE: 58
  • Duolingo English Test Scores of 90+

Students who have been entirely educated in English are exempt. High school or college students who have had 2 years of instruction in English at an accredited U.S. college/university/high school may supply official transcripts to see if they might be able to waive the English Proficiency requirement.

Note: Champlain College Online does not offer English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) courses, but we highly encourage prospective students whose scores fall below the minimum threshold listed above to consider taking and mastering introductory through advanced/academic ESOL course levels at a community college or other low-cost provider.

*You may be exempt from the language testing requirement if you have successfully completed an associate, bachelor's or master's degree at an institution whose primary language of instruction is English. Additionally, Champlain College Online reserves the right to waive this requirement on a case-by-case basis, particularly for students whose profession requires significant written and oral communication in English.

All evaluated transcripts and official language test scores must be sent directly from the administering agency to Champlain College Online via postal mail, email or fax to the address on the left column of this page.

"I was living in Mexico during my program, and there was a major earthquake. My advisor heard about it and called me the next day to find out how I was. It's that kind of personal touch that really makes Champlain special."
