Bringing Corrections to Life: How AI and Creative Storytelling Transformed My Course Design

Over the past few years, I’ve worked on multiple courses in the criminology program for Champlain College Online as an Instructional Designer. The college hired industry experts and professionals as Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) who brought incredible stories, insights, and perspectives from the field to help shape our future workforce and those students earning a degree in this field. Some of the content throughout the courses included interviews with other industry experts and looking at the topics through the career lens.

When I was tasked to work with a SME for a 200-level “Introduction to Corrections” course alongside Program Director Janet Morrison and SME Richard Kelly, I was also tasked to use AI to develop the content and for the SME to act as a reviewer. This was going to be different.
